REFLECTING ALONG
MARKET

PHILADELPHIA, PA | SPRING 2020 HOK FUTURES STUDENT
DESIGN CHALLENGE
PARTNER | LISA KNUST

Reflecting Along Market situates itself within the context of Philadelphia’s iconic Market Street, opposing its classical forms while reflecting the acquired patina of those buildings which surround. The building’s form finds reference in greater Philadelphia’s progressive architectural precedents while its materiality actively works to re-frame the textures and materials found along Market Street. Reflections realized through the lens of the new building provides only glimpses of preceding forms and materials that are so familiar to the city. It looks to the future while paying homage to the past.

This project was developed over a two week period with a partner or HOK Philadelphia office’s annual Design Futures challenge. While the project was not selected as the winner, I am very happy with the work that we produced together over such a short period of time. It was truly collaborative throughout, with both contributing to concept development, form, materials, and production of final materials together. Lisa was generally responsible for renderings and I was generally responsible for vector drawings, however there was constant communication and feedback throughout the project.
