DECONSTRUCTING PENN’S LANDING
PHILADELPHIA, PA | SPRING 2020 BLTa COMPETITION
PARTNER | LISA KNUST
AWARDED SECOND PLACE
Deconstructing Penn’s Landing situates itself within a historicall complex and changing site. It reacts the industrial working waterway along the Delaware River and also the historical industrial nature of the city of Philadelphia more generally. The forms seen in the intervention respond to existing angles found adjacent to and near to the larger context of the site. The armature of the intervention which houses the cultural aspects of the program (a combination of performance spaces and Philadelphia History Museum) running north to south ties the new building to the existing infrastructure seen in the Delaware River Trail. The east to west armature comprises the remaining program: retail on the ground floor north side, ferry terminal and ticketing at the ground floor south side, office spaces on three stories above ground floor, and remaining floors residential, featuring a roof-top pool and green roofs across the building.
