AP-2 STORAGE BENCH
IN MATTE BLACK | SUMMER 2018 | 48”L X 15”W X 17”H
My second and more successful piece of furniture designed and built in the summer of 2018. This bench responds to a functional need in a tight living space - the need for storage. The design attempts to create a simple box that imperceptibly functions beyond its appearance. When looking at it the only clues are the small round hole in the lid, and the black hinges protruding at the back.
The desire for a certain aesthetic caused met to design the assembly of this piece first and foremost. In order for the front to be one single plane of wood means that it must overlap not only the side panels but the base of the box as well. And this box floats upon a sub-base. Finally the decision to paint the furniture a matte black aids in concealing its underlying function even further.
